Carl graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1974. He has extensive experience and knowledge in most areas of law, with an expertise in complex civil and criminal litigation. His 42 years of experience include positions as a prosecutor, municipal attorney and magistrate. He is admitted to practice in the State of South Dakota, federal district court and the court of appeals. Carl and Doug began practicing together in 1982 in Huron, South Dakota.
